Malaysia eVisa Documents Checklist: Passport, Photo, Bank Statement & More

Most eVisa delays come down to one thing: a document that is missing, blurry or doesn't match the application. Use this checklist before you apply and you'll avoid the most common problems.

Required for every traveller

1. Passport bio-data page

  • Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the day you arrive in Malaysia.
  • Upload a clear colour scan or photo of the page with your photo and details.
  • All four corners visible, no glare, no fingers covering text — and the two lines of letters and numbers at the bottom (the MRZ) must be readable.

2. Passport-size photo

  • A recent colour photo (taken in the last 6 months is a good rule).
  • Plain white or light background, face looking straight at the camera, eyes open.
  • No sunglasses, no hats or caps (religious head coverings are fine if the face is fully visible).
  • Don't crop it from a group photo or use filters.

The official specification can change, so we check every photo against the current MyVISA requirements before submitting.

3. Financial proof (last 3 months)

Usually a bank statement covering the last 3 months, showing your name and enough balance for your trip. If a family member is paying for your trip, include their statement and a short sponsorship letter.

4. Return or onward ticket

A flight reservation showing you will leave Malaysia within your permitted stay of up to 30 days.

5. Hotel booking or accommodation

A hotel confirmation — or, if you're staying with family or friends, their address and a short invitation note.

6. Travel history

Copies of previous visas or entry stamps (for example Thailand, Singapore, India, the UAE). A good travel history can help.

Travelling as a family?

Every traveller — including children and infants — needs their own eVisa, passport scan and photo. Shared documents like the hotel booking and the main applicant's bank statement can be reused for dependents. For children, keep a copy of the birth certificate handy in case it is requested.
